Gorman Gains Another Term
Heading UFOA
By GINGER ADAMS OTIS
Peter L. Gorman has been re-elected to his eighth consecutive
one-year term as president of the Uniformed Fire Officers' Association, making
him the longest-serving top official in the union's history. "I'm honored to be
chosen to lead the UFOA again," Mr. Gorman said in a written statement. "But
much still needs to be done."

Others Elected
The 2,500 Fire Department Lieutenants, Captains, Battalion Chiefs, Deputy
Chiefs, Medical Officers and Supervising Fire Marshals who comprise the UFOA
also re-elected the following officers to one-year terms: Lieut. Stephen
Carbone, vice president; Battalion Chief John McDonnell, treasurer; Deputy Chief
Nicholas Visconti, recording secretary; Lieut. James McGowan, financial
secretary; Capt. Michael Currid, sergeant-at-arms; Lieut. Edward Boles,
Lieutenants' representative; Capt. John Dunne, Captains' representative; and
Battalion Chief George Belnavis, Chiefs' representative.
Mr. Gorman cited the Aug. 7 deaths of Lieut. Howard Carpluk Jr. and
Firefighter Michael Reilly, crushed by debris when a burning roof collapsed, as
a reminder of the dangers firefighters encounter on the job.
"Even as the FDNY buried these brave men, hundreds of our members remain sick
from the toxic dust from the ruins of the World Trade Center," he said. "The
UFOA will never rest until everything that can be done for our first responders
will be done."
