Sanworker Dies Of Heart Attack

By HOWARD MEGDAL

A period of tragedy continued for the city's Sanitation workers when 21-year veteran Allen Gormely of Brooklyn South District 13 Garage suffered a massive heart attack and died while on duty Sept. 11.

Mr. Gormely, 52, was working on Bay 46th St. between Cropsey and Harway Aves. when he collapsed. He was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It's been a rough two weeks for city sanitation workers - first a truck death, then the shooting death of a hero sanman, and now Allen having a heart attack on the job," Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association President Harry Nespoli said in a Sept. 11 statement. "Allen was a terrific guy. He was a union shop steward for the past five years, and just recently I was with him for a tour of the renovated garage he worked out of."

Mr. Gormely is survived by a son Justin, who is also a Sanitation worker. No other information about survivors or funeral arrangements was available as this newspaper went to press.
