Days of Distraction

To the Editor:

Make no mistake! The so-called Local 100 TWU Union "Days Of Action" are about nothing more than campaigning for union President Roger Toussaint's reelection.

Toussaint's political operatives are circulating a memo about the MTA's demands in front of arbitrators, but they are silent on the union's demands. Toussaint hasn't told them - or anyone else - what Local 100 is demanding at arbitration.

MTA management wants the world - that's no news. But what does TWU want?

Why isn't Toussaint going big now that the TA has a new $316-million surplus? What is on the table for our side? Or did they just send the contract we previously voted down to the arbitrators?

The 1.5-percent contribution to health care didn't go through the first time we voted. It only got through the second time because Toussaint scared the heck out of people. Same story today. He's selling fear instead of real information about our negotiations.

Where's that pro-Toussaint puppet who got up in front of the media to claim that contract protestors should "Be Real"? Are his eyes open yet? What hypocrisy. Now is the time to put the bull to sleep. "Let's be real."

CLINTON MONTGOMERY, MTA Station Agent
