Sees Ugly Stereotype

To the Editor:

Retired Deputy Warden in Command Terrence Skinner just can't help himself. In his July 21 Letter to the Editor, he states that former Police/Correction Commissioner Bernard Kerik was Rudy Giuliani's "made man," which is a term that is used in Mafia movies when the "godfather" brings someone into his close inner circle and gives him power.

Is it that possibly Mr. Skinner was referencing the power that Mr. Kerik used to promote him to Deputy Warden in Command? Probably not.

I would like to pose two questions to Terrence Skinner: Are you suggesting that Mayor Giuliani is a Mafia godfather because he is Italian? It sure appears to be so. More importantly, would you use the same reference if the former Mayor were Irish? I am sure not.

No one, no group, and no race should be stereotyped due to their heritage.

Department of Correction Columbia
Association
