Hang Tough, Pat

To the Editor:

PBA President Pat Lynch is being criticized for intransigence, shortsightedness, and a few other things unsuitable to sensitive ears. He should ignore his critics and keep the pressure on his opponent, Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The most important thing for city cops is to break parity with all the other city unions, and they will never do this by playing ball with City Hall. Being able to go to binding arbitration with the Public Employment Relations Board - which must consider the wages of city cops compared to those of other police departments - gives the PBA some leverage.

To quote a great fighter, Winston Churchill: "Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

MICHAEL J. GORMAN
