COMPUTER AIDE FILING IS OPEN UNTIL JULY 25

Starting Salary Is $29,203; No Written Exam; Candidates Evaluated Based on Education And Experience

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services is accepting applications until July 25 for an evaluation leading to Computer Aide jobs.

The starting salary is $29,203. There is no written or practical exam. Candidates will be ranked based on their education and experience. The positions are available in city agencies.

Job Requirements

To qualify, by the last day of filing candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and six months of full-time mainframe and/or mini-computer operations experience, or service desktop work within the past year and three months.

Candidates who have graduated from an approved technical school specializing in work-related fields within the past five years can also apply. In addition, individuals who have valid A+ or Network + certification are eligible. Various other combinations of education and experience are also acceptable; individuals should consult the exam notice for a complete listing.

The following experience does not qualify: data-entry or word-processing, spreadsheet or data applications as an end-user, and operating or maintaining computer equipment within a local area or wide area network.

Candidates who meet the basic requirements will receive 70 points. Individuals with additional education or work experience will receive more credit. Part-time experience will be accepted on a pro-rated basis.

Appointees must be city residents within 90 days of appointment. Filing for the title was originally open in April. Candidates who filed then do not need to reapply. There is a $30 application fee. According to the exam notice, Computer Aides operate computer consoles, networks, and peripheral devices and provide users with service desk or desk top support. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
