NYPD Promotes 75 Sergeants, 40 Lieutenants


Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly named a new Assistant Chief and four Deputy Inspectors among 171 uniformed upgrades and 40 civilian promotions in morning and afternoon ceremonies held at 1 Police Plaza Feb. 24.

Assistant Chief Thomas P. Sweeney joined the department in August 1973, beginning his career on patrol with the 32nd Precinct. He has been a Deputy Chief since March 1999 and is the commanding officer of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Training.

Promoted to Deputy Inspector were William J. Abramo, Thomas H. Delahanty, Joseph M. Herbert and Thomas W. Pilkington.
