Davoren Wraps Career By REUVEN BLAU
Mr. Davoren, who began his career in 1971 as a Correction Officer in what was then known as the Correctional Institution for Men on Rikers Island, said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family. "I've done 35 years and its time to hand the reins over," he remarked. "My kids are getting older and it's time to spend some time with them." 'Turned System Around' He noted that the department has dramatically changed for the better since he came on the job. "I've seen from where we were in the early 1970s and we've turned ourselves around violence-wise and staff-wise," he said. "Right now we're on top of everything and it's a good time to go." Norman Seabrook, the president of the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association, said Mr. Davoren was an "inspiration" to his members. "Bobby Davoren was a dedicated and honorable member of the department for over 35 years," Mr. Seabrook remarked in a statement. "His career was in inspiration to many of us. He is someone who you can always count on during good times and bad times." As for retirement plans, Mr. Davoren said he may do some consulting. "I'm going to try and relax a little bit," he added. "It's been an enjoyable time. The department has been good to me and I've been good to the department." | |||||
