NURSING, PHARMACY JOBS NOW AVAILABLE Both Posts Pay $25G to Start; File by Feb. 13;
Experience Needed; Written Tests March 18 The state Department of Civil Service is accepting applications for exams leading to Nursing Station Clerk I jobs and Pharmacy Aide positions. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 13. The written tests are scheduled for March 18. Individuals can apply and obtain copies of the exam notice online at www.cs.state.ny.us/jobs.htm . Nurse Clerk Details The starting salary for Nursing Station Clerk is $25,000. There is no filing fee. For both titles, individuals assigned to work in the five boroughs or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester counties will receive a $1,302 location pay differential. To qualify, by the written test candidates must have one year of full-time clerical or secretarial experience in a health care setting or patient care experience. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience that can be verified will be accepted on a pro-rated basis. State residency is not required. Nursing Station Clerks process physicians' written orders by recording them in charts or entering them directly into a computer after they are reviewed by a Registered Nurse. They also make emergency calls, receive new admissions, prepare and maintain patient charts, keep daily logs, and perform miscellaneous clerical duties as required. The written exam will test candidates' abilities to file given information, check names and numbers, spell health care terms, and understand and interpret written material. The passing score is 70 percent. The starting salary for Pharmacy Aide is $24,963. There is a $20 filing fee. Job Requirements On the date of the written exam, candidates must have a high school diploma or a GED, and six months of experience assisting with the filing of medical prescriptions under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. A pharmacy technician certification or a diploma from a pharmacy training program can be substituted for the work requirement. The written exam will gauge candidates' abilities to keep simple inventory records and check names and numbers. The exam will test candidates' knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, principles and practices. The passing score is 70 percent. Pharmacy Aides help pharmacists prepare medications. They also maintain inventory of pharmaceutical supplies and assist with orders and record-keeping. | |||||
