POLITICS ON THE TRACKS

Politics on The Tracks

To the Editor:

What a ridiculous outburst from track union rep Jeffrey Lee (Nov. 3 letter). He has proven that he knows next to nothing about safety enforcement at NYC Transit. Whoever wrote the letter for Jeffrey Lee completely misguided him.

NYS PESH, like all other similar state programs, is required by statute to meet or exceed the minimum standards established by OSHA. Lee is dead wrong regarding OSHA's involvement in this safety process. If OSHA states that the illumination standard being used by NYC Transit and rubber-stamped by PESH is wrong, then PESH will bow to OSHA and change it.

Talk about playing politics! Criticize another union rep for publicly challenging both NYC Transit and the state Department of Labor's endangerment of Local 100 members? Way to go, Jeffrey Lee!

The fact is Jeffrey Lee has no clue about what constitutes proper illumination on job sites. He is too busy cozying up to Track Construction management feeding his personal overtime gravy train to care about track safety.
