Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty (left) renames the department's training academy at Floyd Bennett Field in his memory Nov. 2. Mr. DiCarlo, a 24-year veteran of the agency who retired as a training instructor, suffered a brain aneurysm on his way to his retirement party in 2003 and died a few days later.
