Vet PR Aide New Jails Spokesman

Stephen J. Morello has been named the new Director of Communications for the Department of Correction. Mr. Morello, who began his career working for former Govs. Hugh L. Carey and Mario M. Cuomo, most recently served as head of media relations for the Department of Education.

He replaces the longtime DOC spokesman Tom Antenen, who resigned after the Daily News reported that a wiretap on former Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik's cell phone had picked up a conversation in which they discussed what Mr. Antenen might say to a grand jury investigating his ex-boss. Mr. Kerik later pleaded guilty to improperly accepting nearly $200,000 in financial help from individuals who did business with the city.

The DOC has also hired former New York Sun editor Michael Saucier as Director of Media Services.
