Principals Union Backs Clinton For Re-Election
By HOWARD MEGDAL
The union representing the
city's Principals, Assistant Principals and other administrators endorsed U.S.
Senator Hillary Clinton's re-election bid last week.
HILLARY CLINTON: 'Advocate for schools.' "Senator Clinton has proven herself to be a strong advocate for public education, for labor unions and for retirees," Council of School Supervisors and Administrators President Jill S. Levy said in a June 22 statement. "She believes in the importance of recruiting and retaining quality school leaders and she has publicly supported special education and early education programs."
Bill Helps Principals
Ms. Clinton introduced a bill, the School Leadership Program, which provides Federal funding to schools for recruiting Principals. CSA estimates the bill has provided city schools with $8 million since it was enacted in 2001.
She also received CSA's endorsement in 2000. "I am honored to once again have the support of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators," Senator Clinton said in a June 22 statement. "School Principals and administrators are so important to the success of our schools. That is why I worked so hard to enact the School Leadership Program back in 2001, and why I am committed to making sure our school administrators have the support and resources they need to ensure that every child receives an excellent education."
CSA awarded Ms. Clinton its Friend of Public Education
award in December 2005.
