Clerical Posts Have Salaries Of $24G, $30G; Experience, Diploma Needed for Oct. Written Test

The Office of Court Administration is accepting applications for Court Office Assistant and Senior Court Office Assistant jobs.

Applications must be postmarked by July 14. The multiple-choice tests are set for Oct. 14. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee.

Downstate Bonus

The starting salary for Senior Court Office Assistant is $30,379. Individuals assigned to work in the city, Suffolk, Rockland, Nassau, and Westchester counties will receive $1,302 in annual location pay.

To qualify, by the date of the exam candidates must have two years of full-time clerical experience and a high school diploma or GED. New York State residency is not required.

The written exam will test candidates' abilities to maintain court records, distinguish between sets of names, numbers and letters, and read, understand and interpret written material. The exam will also gauge their skills in arranging information into files, using basic math calculations, preparing written material, and applying facts and information to specific situations.

The passing score is 70 percent. Candidates should plan to spend at least four hours at the test center, which includes time needed to register and to complete the exam. War veterans are eligible for extra credits.

Senior Court Office Assistants work on a variety of clerical administrative tasks, such as checking, filing, and sorting court papers, obtaining and copying information, and retrieving data from files. The starting salary for Court Office Assistant is $24,043. Individuals assigned to work in the city and surrounding counties will receive a $1,302 location pay differential.

Job Requirements

To qualify, by the date of the written exam candidates must have one year of fulltime clerical experience and a high school diploma or GED. New York State residency is not required.

The exam will test candidates' abilities to keep records, compare clerical information, read, understand and interpret written material. The exam will also test candidates' skills in arranging information into files according to specified categories and basic math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages. The passing score is 70 percent.
