THE CHIEF-LEADER welcomes letters from its readers for publication. ACCUSED, NOT GUILTY Accused, Not Guilty
I write to make two clarifications in connection with recent articles. In the May 26 edition, there is a story about a settlement of a lawsuit involving WEP workers. The article repeats an earlier article which gratuitously mentioned the name of a Sanitation Chief who had been accused of sexual harassment. The Chief, the late James Soto, was in fact found not guilty by an Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings judge following a trial based on the same charges. Your readers should be aware that a settlement in a lawsuit does not imply guilt. The second article, in the For the Record section of the June 2 issue, discussing the new EMS retirees' association, states that the unions representing EMS workers are two DC 37 locals. While those locals represent the bulk of EMS workers, the Deputy Chiefs and Division Commanders are represented by an independent union, the EMS Superior Officers' Association. Chief Hosey, who is one of the principal organizers of the new retirees association, was in fact a member of EMS SOA. JOAN STERN KIOK |
