The Department of Citywide Administrative Services is accepting applications for an exam leading to Associate Accountant jobs and an evaluation for Graphic Artist positions.

Applications must be submitted by June 27. The starting salary for Associate Accountant is $39,904. The multiple-choice test is set for Oct. 21.

Starting pay for Graphic Artist is $32,482. There is no written or practical exam. Candidates will be ranked based on an education-and-experience evaluation.

Accountant Requirements

To qualify for the accountant position, by the last day of filing candidates must have a bachelor's degree with 24 credits in a work-related field or a valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.

Experience as a cashier, account clerk, payroll clerk, bank teller, or bookkeeper is not acceptable.

The multiple-choice test will include questions on generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards. The exam will also test candidates' abilities to comprehend and interpret technical and financial data, supervise, and monitor work flow and staff training. The passing score is 70 percent.

To qualify for Graphic Artist, by the last day of filing candidates must have a bachelor's degree in fine or graphic arts and one year of work-related experience. Individuals with a high school diploma or GED and two years of training in a technical school plus three years of work experience can also apply.

Test Scoring

Candidates who meet the basic qualifications will receive a score of 70 points. Additional credits will be given to individuals who have additional knowledge of the following programs: QuarkXpress, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design, Adobe Acrobat, Dream Weaver, PageMaker, Premier Pro., MacroMedia Flash and Fireworks, Final Cut Pro., Corel Draw, Corel Paint, and Fractal Design Painter.

Graphic Artists perform technical work illustrating and presenting materials, and interpret data in graphic form.

DCAS is also accepting applications until June 27 for an evaluation leading to Air Pollution Inspector jobs. There is no written exam. Candidates will be ranked based on their education and experience.

The starting salary is $33,291. Various combinations of prior schooling and work practice are considered qualifying; candidates should consult the exam notice for a complete list.
