Despite protracted contract negotiations with the city that have yet to produce a wage deal, Lieutenants' Benevolent Association President Anthony Garvey and his entire slate May 24 were unopposed for new four-year terms.
TONY GARVEY: Encouraged by support. "I appreciate the confidence that the members have in me to get the contract done," Mr. Garvey said during a phone interview the following afternoon. "The fact that I was nominated unopposed really makes me appreciate the support."
A Record Tenure
The new term begins July 1. Mr. Garvey, who has headed the union since 1991, is the longest-serving LBA president.
He noted the union had a contract negotiation session with the city May 23. "Progress was made," he remarked. "But we are not on the cusp of finalizing a deal. We still have to work out a number of issues." The union president has said that the LBA is looking to negotiate a four-year accord similar to the financial terms agreed to this round of bargaining by several of the city's other uniformed unions, including the Detectives' Endowment Association and the Uniformed Firefighters' Association.
The other officers elected are: Thomas Drogan, first vice
president; Thomas Sullivan, recording secretary; Peter Martin,
secretary-treasurer; Kevin Leddy, second vice president; James Woods, marshal;
Meg Callaghan, inside sentinel; and Louis Turco, outside sentinel.
