The Department of Citywide Administrative Services is accepting applications for an exam leading to Sanitation Enforcement Agent jobs and an evaluation for Procurement Analyst positions.

Applications must be submitted by May 23. The starting pay for Sanitation Enforcement Agent is $24,447. The multiple-choice test is set for July 15.

Application Standards

To qualify, by the date of appointment candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. Appointees must also have a valid New York State driver's license.

The multiple-choice exam will test candidates' abilities to remember new information, understand the proper order for completing specific tasks, and comprehend and communicate written information. The exam will also gauge candidates' aptitude for recognizing the existence of a problem, answering basic arithmetic questions, and applying general rules to a specific problem. The passing score is 70 percent.

Sanitation Enforcement Agents enforce city and state traffic and health code laws. They inspect commercial and residential establishments, streets and sidewalks, and perform security duty at Department of Sanitation facilities.

The starting salary for Procurement Analyst is $30,131. There is no written or practical test. Candidates will be rated based on an education and experience evaluation.

To apply, by the last day of filing candidates must have a bachelor's degree with six months of full-time work-related experience. The qualifying experience includes work procuring goods and services or negotiating contracts.

Candidates with an associate's degree or 60 college credits with 18 months of work experience can also apply. Various other combinations of work and education are also considered qualifying; applicants should consult the exam notice for a complete list.

Procurement Analysts help city agencies purchase goods and services. They also manage contracts for assigned services.

For both jobs, candidates must be city residents within 90 days of appointment. Some agencies, however, do not require city residency. New hires should consult with their appointing agency's personnel office during their appointment interview.

Further information and copies of the exam notice can be obtained online at www.nyc.gov/dcas, or by writing to the DCAS Application Center, 18 Washington St., New York, N.Y. 10004.
