THE CHIEF-LEADER welcomes letters from its readers for publication. TWU DO-OVER DOUBTS TWU Do-Over Doubts To the Editor: The recent elementary school antics of the TWU Local 100 executive board only show how far this union has drifted from the rule of law and the democratic standard of majority rule. We have elections, referendums and the like to determine what is the mindset of the majority. There is nothing written that I know of that permits a candidate or a particular faction to call for a do-over, just because they do not think the voters got it right, or in Toussaint's case, didn't understand. The questions rising from this issue will be numerous, such as: If the next vote is close on the Yes side, do we do that one over? What is an acceptable margin? Who decides when it's over? We are heading down a slippery slope, and we only have Toussaint to thank for this new round of chaos at Local 100. For instance, I voted for Eddie Melendez two elections ago and I didn't think then that the members made the right choice. I still don't. Does this now mean that I could start a campaign for a new election, citing that the members didn't understand his platform? C'mon folks, whatever happened to logic! PAUL ROSENBERG |
