EMS Santas Give Cheer to Children

EMS Santas Give Cheer to Children

Christmas came a few days early for some lucky kids in Brooklyn, thanks to a group of Emergency Medical Service workers who dressed up as Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Rudolph to deliver presents to needy families Dec. 23.

The annual effort was spearheaded by Paramedic Gary Smiley and others from his crew, who picked up letters addressed to Santa from the U.S. Postal Service and then passed a hat around EMS houses until $1,000 had been collected for presents. A "sleigh" left EMS Battalion 31 late in the afternoon Dec. 23, and "Santa" and his team were busy handing out gifts all through the night.
