      Social Security survivors' insurance is among those cornerstones of support that can help families that have suffered the worst consequences of a disaster. People who had a family member die as a result of Hurricane Katrina may now be eligible for survivors' benefits, just as any family that loses a wage earner or Social Security beneficiary may be eligible.
