     To the Editor: How many of us recall a rather nasty period for the New York Transit Authority from the ’60s to about the ’80s when the system was considered dangerous and dirty, not only to New Yorkers but to visitors as well?

Cut Waste, Not FDNY
     To the Editor: It is time for New Yorkers to stand up and scream at what is going on in the Bloomberg administration. Time to start asking questions of their elected officials, and holding them accountable for inequities in their decisions that affect their lives. New Yorkers should demand that their taxpayer dollars are not wasted while Draconian cuts to public safety are threatened.

No Gibe Left Behind
     To the Editor: Local news last week stated that the high school graduation rate for city students rose to 59 percent in 2009, up from 56.4 percent in 2008. The state graduation rate also improved, rising to about 72 percent from 71 percent in 2008.

A Fine Bunch of Mutineers
     To the Editor: A union has four goals. They are job security, good salary, benefits and better than-decent working conditions. When these goals are met, the bar is to be set a little higher and go for more. To accomplish these aims, the members elect their president etc., to lead and serve them.
